I grew up on a small mixed farm near Grande Prairie, Alberta, in the heart of the great Peace River country. As a child, I was surrounded by wide skies and endless fields, though I’ll admit, I wasn’t too fond of the animals, the bugs, or the dirt! But even then, I found beauty in the world around me, the ever-changing colors of each season, the golden sunrises, and those breathtaking Alberta sunsets that painted the horizon in pure magic.
Art called to me early on, but for years, I believed creativity meant perfection; that a painting had to be a perfect replica of its subject. Failing grades and old-school ideas dimmed that spark for a while, but never fully put it out.
As life unfolded, I raised a family, ran businesses, and watched my children spread their wings. I finally returned to my first love: painting. Watercolor had always fascinated me. Over the past 25+ years, I’ve taken countless classes, experimented endlessly, and found new inspiration through YouTube tutorials that opened my eyes to the beauty of “loose” painting. The moment I discovered the card swipe technique, watching water and pigment flow freely to create forms that felt alive, I knew I had found my voice.
Today, I proudly create as one of the abstract watercolor artists in Canada, exploring freedom, color, and play. In October 2024, I officially leaped into my artistic journey, letting go of fear and embracing joy, movement, and emotion. Each piece is an abstract landscape that whispers of nature’s rhythms and the wonder of letting go.
For those searching for local watercolor artists near me, I hope my work brings inspiration and serenity to your space. As an emerging new Canadian watercolorist, I release new groupings each month inspired by the seasons or a specific color palette, celebrating nature’s ever-changing beauty. I’m thrilled to share my collection with you and hope one of my paintings finds its place in your home.
